Since beginning her career in dentistry, Dr. Laster has honed her dental skills by working in several private practices as well as some practices that serve the underprivileged. She has a passion for helping those in need and doing dental mission work. Dr. Laster loves to work on both adults and children. She finds her greatest fulfillment in her personal interactions with her patients and staff.
Education and Experience
Dr. Laster grew up in Clearwater, Florida, but left the Sunshine State to attend American University in Washington, DC. At American she studied Biology, and was awarded a Bachelor of Science degree, Magna Cum Laude, in 1996. She fostered her education in the biological sciences by doing research at the National Institutes of Health in Bethesda, Maryland. She focused on two areas: cellular histamine release and Sjogren’s syndrome, a disease affecting both saliva and tear production. Dr. Laster also swam competitively for the American University Division I swim team.
Following her undergraduate degree, Dr. Laster traveled south to the great state of North Carolina to pursue her dental education. She graduated in 2000 with Honors from the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill School of Dentistry, where she also received the Diagnosis and Treatment Planning Award. She is proud to have graduated from this nationally recognized dental education program. It was in dental school, that Dr. Laster met her husband, Stewart. They began competing in triathalons, and both became a big fan of Tar Heel basketball. After finishing dental school in 2000, the Laster's decided to call the triangle home based upon their love for the area.
By regularly participating in continuing education, Dr. Laster stays up-to-date on the latest technology and dental treatments. Her patients deserve the best, and continuing education allows her to provide patients with more options and better results. Outside the Office
Dr. Laster and her husband, Stewart, married in 2001 and moved to Raleigh in 2004. They have three beautiful children, Will, Cate, and Caroline, also the newest addition to the Laster's family, their dog Tucker.
Dr. Laster's husband, Stewart, is an orthodontist and the owner of Laster Orthodontics. He has offices located in North Raleigh, Zebulon, and the newest in Roseville. Both love serving their patients, and sharing their daily clinical experiences with one another. They especially love working on their patients’ cases together, establishing relationships with the families they treat.
They are members of Redeemer Presbyterian Church in Raleigh, and enjoy church activities as a family. In her free time, Dr. Laster enjoys long-distance running, fitness, and traveling. She has ran multiple half marathons, finishing her first full marathon in Myrtle Beach, SC in February of 2008.
Dr. Laster feels truly blessed to live and work in such a wonderful community. She enjoys getting to know her patients and their families, feeling honored to know that she has made a difference in so many people’s lives.
